I have got to talk about these Arizona ice teas. They're taking the cans of the stuff, blowing them up to monumental sizes (23.5 oz, that's ridiculous!) and then lowering the price to a dollar. Gallons and gallons of the stuff can be bought for like 10 bucks! This old soldier ain't fooled, this can't be good for the economy OR the consumers. Who needs that much corn syrup?

Elections tomorrow! [Nov. 6th, 2006|11:49 am]
Tomorrow's election day! Where we all get to vote for the Democrat or Republican of our choice. Sure, you could vote for a third or fourth party candidate to "show them all a lesson", but you might as well write in NOBODY. There's no chance in hell that 3rd or 4th party candidates are going to get any slice of the pie. So really, running as a 3rd party candidate?

Obama president. President Obama. Everyone's been talking about him since the last election, despite the guy not having much of a record. He was just well-liked. So now he's saying he's not sure if he'll run or not. He'll decide after the Congressional elections, which is smart. I remember when Alan Keyes went up against him in the Illinois Senate race. He had no chance of winning! Keyes is nuts! Alan! Wake up! Smell the coffee!

Everyone's adopting [Oct. 18th, 2006|04:10 pm]
Someone tell me why the hell Madonna is adopting. Sure, she's rich and she can afford it, but wouldn't her money be better spent on aid programs? Now she basically bought a kid! And as a father, doesn't she realize the truth about parenthood?

Monopoly comes around once a year [Oct. 16th, 2006|09:35 am]
It was a Sunday like any other. Woke up, puttered around the house, got Jodi started on a homework project that was due today, and headed out to the hobby shop to purchase some model paint. I'm working on my model railroad in the basement again, after ignoring it for almost a year, and I'm finally getting around to painting the logos on the silo. With the paint bought, I zip over to McDonalds for a value meal before headng home, and I order a Big Mac meal. "Would you like that in a large size?" the cashier asked. No, i said, I don't, I have a dinner to go to tonight with the missus. "But you get the free Monopoly pieces with the large fries" she said. "Monopoly pieces? That collectible game?" I yelled, "I would not like to play that, because

Delicious taquitos [Oct. 10th, 2006|04:16 pm]
I had dinner with my wife and my son last night at the local Mexican eatery, El Dorado, and enjoyed a lovely meal of taquitos. Sometimes I get a strong hankering for taquitos and I end up taking the whole family down to El Dorado for them. We all enjoy them, although Jodi prefers enchiladas. When the meal was over, the waitress asked us if we wanted our churros there or to go. "Churros? We didn't order any churros," I said. "It's our dinner special," she said, "our taquitos platter comes with free churro dessert." Jodi wanted the churros but no one's going to fool this old Admiral! I said "No, we don't want any of your free churros because

Congress is WHACK! [Oct. 6th, 2006|02:39 pm]
Oh man, this whole Congressional scandal thing is out of control! Sure, it made sense that Foley stepped down, but now he's in rehab to avoid answering any questions - when most of his friends claimed he didn't have a drinking problem at all. This Mon Calamari smells cover-up! But Dennis Hastert is trying to stick to his guns, which will probably fail because everyone's going to be asking if he's going to resign for the next couple months. That's the big story, not the re-election or anything. What it comes down to, really, is that he should have addressed these concerns earlier, instead of letting sleeping dogs lie, otherwise

Comic books and sea monkeys [Oct. 6th, 2006|02:32 pm]
So my son, Jodi, has been on a comic book kick these last few years. I'm happy to drive him to the comic store and let him get some back issues, it's a neat thing we can do together, father and son (since I'm the driver, I have to go). He's been looking at some old issues and he found some ads for Sea Monkeys. Remember these things? They looked a little like me, what with the big eyes and all, and amphibious, but they were tiny, stupid, and not bi-pedal. Jodi thinks they're hilarious (as least the pictures in the ads) and he wants me to take him to the hobby store and see if they're still being sold. Now, comic books I'll tolerate, but not Sea Monkeys because

Ackbar complains a bit [Oct. 4th, 2006|01:19 pm]
So I come home last night to find that the dog chewed the remote. Ate it. The whole thing, minus the wires. He ate the plastic, he ate the rubber buttons, the thing barely exists. It's kind of par for the course with a big dog like Samson, but it did necessitate me to go out and purchase a new remote at Best Buy for $17. While I'm at the register, the cashier mentions that my purchase qualifies for a free trial subscription to Entertainment Weekly or Sports Illustrated. Now, the downside is that I get the free 4 issues or whatever and THEN I have to pay for the rest with my credit card. I don't like EW or SI, so this whole subscription offer?

Whoah! Biotech! [Oct. 3rd, 2006|10:04 am]
Everyone! Listen! Here's a tip from old AA - Do Not Buy Biotech Stocks! Those things are performing poorly, especially when compared to last year. Biotech stock prices have dipped 4 percent year-to-date, underperforming the S&P 500, which has gained 5 percent. Last year, biotechs as a group surged 21 percent, four times the gain of the S&P. Be careful when filling your portfolio with any kind of tech stocks,

A day off [Oct. 2nd, 2006|12:03 pm]
I was mowing the lawn yesterday when my neighbor Alan stopped by to chat. He's a low-level bank manager and he's kind of a dork, but he's a nice guy. We talked about the Yankees and he invited me over to watch the game. I thanked him, but I said I wouldn't be able to that day because

George Michael, No! [Oct. 2nd, 2006|10:19 am]
Once again, "pop" star George Michael was taken in by the police for drug possession. The fool was found slumped over in his car, possibly asleep. The man's a mess, people. It's not the first time this has happened, this is supposedly his fourth "motoring incident" in eight months, as the British call it. Now I'm not a giant-headed fish man with no sense, I'd clean my act up if I were him and put out a decent album once in a while. Maybe do a kickass cover, those things get airplay. Just get your life together, George. It's bad enough you were arrested in that bathroom performing "a lewd" act, because as anyone could have told you when you were walking into that stall, George,

Bob, Bob, Bob [Oct. 2nd, 2006|10:06 am]
So Bob Woodward has finally been called out. After writing two books that were fairly nice to the president and the Bush administration, Bob's new book accuses them of totally botching the war on terror. I know abot wars, and I know about terror, and I know about traps, so I know that this kind of thing was going to foul Bob up if he kept playing with fire. He keeps going back to that den of vipers to get information and eventually they're going to turn on him and get pissed at something he said because

Congressman Foley....sigh... [Oct. 2nd, 2006|09:48 am]
Not sure how many of you folks are keeping tabs on this Florida congressman, Mark Foley, but he alledgedly sent a bunch of inappropriate emails to one of his congressional pages. He resigned, even before the full content of the emails and IMs was released - AND after Dennis Hastert defended him publically. Now, I know that it's usually routine for people to send inappropriate emails, and also for congressmen to send emails to pages. However, when you combine the two of them...
